This was an interactive meeting where members were encouraged to participate and move around, even with a bit of disco dancing! In spite of being diagnosed with a rare spinal condition at the age of 5, Jamie has cycled from Bangkok to Gloucester, broken the Guinness world record for static cycling and completed gruelling runs across both Canada and America. He has undertaken epic challenges, running a marathon a day, in sub-zero temperatures, often in a lot of pain and often not knowing where he would be sleeping that night. He told us of the kindness and generosity of stangers he encountered on his challenges. Jaime certainly delivered a motivational, emotional, entertaining and inspiring talk, encouraging everyone to ‘find your super hero’ inside.

Murray Jacobs gave members an engaging tour of ‘Hidden Cambridge’, albeit virtually. His tour focused on King's College and King's College Chapel. He covered a variety of issues, including how the university began in 1209 at St. Mary’s church, and how this was also the location for Stephen Hawking’s funeral in 2018. He told us amusing stories of some of the antics the students got up to such as scrambling up the spires, which tower 150ft above the ground to place santa hats on top of the spires as a joke. The most audacious prank was in 1958 when a group of engineering students hoisted an Austin Seven on to the roof of the Senate House.
Jo is a professional make up artist who aims to educate, inspire and motivate people to feel, think and look the best version of themselves, whatever their age. Jo was an inspiration, finding herself redundant at 40 she decided to have a complete career change and used the opportunity to her advantage, setting up her own business 'Feeling Fabulous Over 40'. Jo did an eyebrow tutorial for us demonstrating how important the eyebrows are in framing our face. Members were encouraged to move out of their comfort zone and try something new.
https://www.facebook.com/FeelingFabulousOver40/ Nikki’s passion and commitment to this charity shone through her talk. We learned about the origins of this charity and the incredibly important work that this charity does bringing cancer treatment closer to patients, allowing them more time to spend with family, friends and loved ones. She told us how some patients refer to these mobile units as the party bus as the staff are so friendly and welcoming.
We were surprised to learn that these mobile cancer units receive no funding from the NHS so rely on corporate and public support. https://hopefortomorrow.org.uk/? https://www.facebook.com/hopefortomorrowcharity/ Back in September we had a fun evening creating these pretty paper flowers with Michelle from Crafts by Michelle Gardiner

Thank you to Miss Wizz for demonstrating how she makes her beautiful unique silver clay jewellery at our March meeting. Our members were so enthralled by her fascinating talk she gave whilst she demonstrated making one her pendants, you could hear a pin drop. And a big thanks to Miss Wizz for kindly donating the finished pendant to the evening's raffle.
Bonnie Lloyd a Feng Shui consultant came along to February's meeting to talk to us about the ancient Chinese practice which creates harmony between you and your home. Explaining how the placement of objects affects the energy flow in your home. We learnt about how the five elements:wood, fire, metal and water influence the mood of your room. Bonnie divided us up into groups representing each element and tasked us with finding out what elements were in our meeting room.We went home armed with some of her top tips to look at how we can create more harmony in our homes, many of us were particularly keen to share closing the toilet lid when flushing will bring wealth.
What a fun start to the new year,at our first meeting of 2020 we learnt the basics of belly dancing. The lovely Ann Malloy talked to us about her personal journey into the world of belly dancing. She also gave us a plotted history on the art of belly dancing and the differences between the dances in Egypt, Turkey and Lebanon. She then demonstrated some dances with her beautiful veils, 'the one veil dance from Cheltenham' and the stunning golden wings of Horus. We then had lots of fun copying Ann as she taught us some belly dancing moves,we tried to get every part of our body shimmying. It wasn't as easy as Ann made it look!
