Our ladies had lots of fun making wonderful polar bear Xmas cake toppers. Many thanks to Heather for all the hard work she put in to making the evening such a success. We also welcome 3 new members, Jan,Sue and Elizabeth.
Here are some of the baked goodies, and some photos of the worthy winners of bake off. We elected our new committee and our secretary reported on what an eventful year we have had. Here are some of our meetings from the last 12 months,we've taken part in morris-dancing taught by The England's Glory Ladies Morris, tried yoga with Natalie Payne and watched a fantastic boylesque performance by Johnny O, listened to talks from a renown criminologist Dr Jane Monckton-Smith, and from local celebrity Eddie the Eagle Edwards, talks on genealogy by Amelia Bennett and wildlife photography by awarding winning photographer David Bailey, beauty tips from the No 7 team from Boots and we learnt about the interesting life of Melvyn Warren Smith whilst undertaking some life drawing with an Elephant in the Room! Also a lot of our members found the time to read books for book club, Hearty Diners dined at many restaurants throughout the county, crafters made cards, gift boxes, decorated pottery and painted butterflies, our Hiking Hurricanes met most months to go on countryside walks. We've collected shoe boxes for the Nelson Trust. And finally our social events; a skittles match, and a look round the WI centenary exhibition at Gloucester Cathedral followed by afternoon tea. Also our own quiz team Quizzy Raskals did very well in the WI quiz night.
Unfortunately Rachel our secretary is standing down due to work commitments. We thank her for all her hard work over the last months. Thank you to our fabulous September speaker who talked to us about his career as a male burlesque dancer and a tailor, gown maker and then wowed us with a burlesque performance and his amazing costume made by himself. What a fun night we had.
In August we held a social night instead of a meeting. We enjoyed a game of skittles,it was fun chatting in between throws.
We were very lucky to have Eddie 'The Eagle' Edwards take time out of his incredibly busy schedule touring the world giving talks to visit us.
What an entertaining evening we had; Eddie was an interesting and amusing speaker. He regaled us with stories of how he became an Olympic ski jumper and the adventures he had after his well earned fame. There was lots of laughter on the evening at Eddies' funny stories, I think he also made us a touch emotional at his stories of support he received from the British public and other European ski jump teams who helped Eddie in his pursuit of becoming a Olympic ski jumper. He also shared stories that demonstrated his amazing resilience, initiative and determination, respect to Eddie, he's a true inspiration. Thank you Eddie to coming for coming to talk to us. Our members enjoyed a talk and demonstration from the Boots Beauty Team. Our Chair was given a given a mini facial and make over. Their sales pitch worked a treat seeing some of our members paying a visit to Boots to buy their products. thank you to Victoria and her team for an enjoyable evening.
Hiking Hurricanes went to Dewstow Hidden Gardens & Grottos. It was a very easy ambling stroll around the beautiful gardens and grottos. The group were inspired with some ideas for their gardens, and got to see dragonflies and bees enjoying the gardens too. They finished off their walk with lunch at their cafe. They also took lots of photos for the rest of the members to enjoy
Well done to our Hearts and Hurricanes quiz team Quizzy Raskals who scored a very respectable score 76/100 and came 13th out of 16 teams. The winners on the night scored 90
